Questions merchants ask
What is a bundle, in Shopify's own terms?
A real product. When you save a bundle, Solid Bundles creates an ordinary product in your catalog. It has its own handle, its own product page, its own price and its own stock number. Nothing about it is special to Shopify, and that is the point. Your theme renders it. Shopify's checkout sells it. Shopify's translations translate it.
Does it add anything to my theme?
No. There is no script, no app block and no snippet to paste. A theme update cannot break a bundle, because a bundle is not made of theme code.
How is the stock number worked out?
By counting complete kits, per location. A bundle of two mugs and one tray shows stock at your Berlin warehouse only if Berlin holds two mugs and a tray together. If Berlin has the mugs and Rotterdam has the tray, the bundle shows zero at both. You pick which locations count on the bundle's Fulfillment locations field.
That number refreshes when Shopify tells the app that inventory moved. It listens for inventory_levels/update, orders/create and products/update. A full recheck also runs every six hours, staggered per store, as a backstop.
What happens when someone buys one?
At checkout the bundle line expands into its components. The buyer sees the kit. Your order shows the individual products, so stock comes off each component, and your fulfilment and sales reports stay on the real items.
The component prices in that expanded line are worked out when you save and stored on the variant, so they add up to the bundle price exactly. No pricing maths happens at checkout time. The health check re-reads that price every six hours and flags the bundle if it no longer matches.
Can a bundle be oversold?
Yes, in two cases, and it is better to know them now than to find them in an order.
The stock number is what you see in Shopify, and what the app uses to send an order to a location that holds a whole kit. It does not block checkout. The bundle product is set to keep selling at zero, because Shopify would otherwise be counting a product that holds no stock of its own.
What Shopify does check at checkout is each component's own stock, and it checks it across your whole store, not one location. So:
- A kit split between two locations can still be bought. Two mugs in Berlin and a tray in Rotterdam show zero at both, and the order can still come in.
- A component you allow to keep selling when it is out of stock will keep selling inside the bundle too.
If a short kit matters to you, set the components to stop selling when they run out, and keep whole kits at the locations you ship from.
Will the app tell me when something is wrong?
On screen, yes. By email, no. Every bundle is checked every six hours for three things: the checkout price, the stock count, and whether shoppers can see the product. A failed check shows on the dashboard and in the bundle list, with the date it started failing. Solid Bundles does not email these problems, so the dashboard is the place to look.
What do the plans actually change?
How many bundles you can have live at once, and whether the Suggestions page is on.
- Free: up to 5 active bundles.
- Growth, $12.90 a month: up to 20, plus Suggestions.
- Unlimited, $29.90 a month: no limit, plus Suggestions.
Both paid plans have a 7-day trial, and both are free on development stores, so you can build the whole thing before you decide.
What are Suggestions?
The app reads your last 90 days of orders and looks for products people already buy together. A pair has to appear in at least two orders before it is suggested, with a proposed discount off the components' combined price. It is a starting point drawn from your own sales, not a guess about your category.
Can one product be a bundle on its own?
Yes, at a quantity of two or more. A bundle needs at least two items in total, so a three-pack of the same mug is a valid bundle. A gift card can't be a component.
If I remove a bundle, does the product disappear?
It becomes a draft. Shoppers can no longer buy it, the product stays in your catalog, and past orders are untouched.
Who answers if something is wrong?
theagentgarage@gmail.com reaches Roy, who built the app and reads the mail. The dashboard's Need help? card opens a message to shopifyaddson@gmail.com with your store domain already in the subject line. Both inboxes are his, so use whichever is in front of you.
Solid Bundles is a Shopify app that sells a kit as one real product, with stock counted per location from its components. It is for merchants who sell sets and want no theme code between them and their inventory.
