Changelog
Changes you can see in the app, newest first. Internal work (tests, deploy plumbing, analytics) is left out. Dates are when the change was finished. Entries up to 3 September were checked in the running app on 25 September 2026, and the later ones on 5 October 2026.
Some entries are fixes to numbers the app used to get wrong. They're written down plainly, because a VAT figure you can't trust is worse than no figure.
5 October 2026
The dashboard now says how far back it could read. The app asks Shopify for the year's orders with one permission, read_orders. Shopify's developer documentation says that permission covers "orders created within the last 60 days". We checked it on a test store, and its July orders did not come back. Until today the dashboard showed such a quarter as if it were whole.
Now pick a quarter that began before the 60-day line and a red notice names the date the read starts from. It tells you to export the earlier orders from Shopify admin. The CSV, the PDF and the order list for that quarter carry a warning line, and their file names end in -INCOMPLETE. The year total behind the €10,000 threshold reads "≥". The FAQ and the tutorial show how to check a quarter with the order list before you file from it.
4 October 2026
The order list. A third button, Download order list (CSV), sits next to the CSV and the PDF (Standard and up). It's one row per EU order with five columns: order, date, country, net, tax. It follows the Period and country menus like the other two. It's there for when an accountant looks at a country total and asks which orders are in it. To print the order number, the app now reads it from Shopify along with the date. Nothing more is stored than before.
Dashes, not zeros, when the orders can't be read. If Shopify returned no order data, the dashboard already showed a banner saying the figures were blank. Under that banner it still printed 0.00 twice, a threshold of 0% marked "Below the €10,000 union threshold", and 0 gap countries in green. All four tiles now show a dash, the threshold tile says "Can't be checked — your orders couldn't be read", and the table and the gap list say the figures aren't shown. A zero that nobody counted was the worst thing on that screen.
26 September 2026
The Free plan's locked table names the quarter. In April, July and October the lock on the per-country table names the quarter that just closed. It gives the closing date and the date the OSS return is due. January is left out, because that return is for last year's fourth quarter and the app doesn't read last year.
24 September 2026
"Run continuously" came out. The How VAT Guard works card used to say two guards run continuously. Nothing runs in the background. Both checks, the threshold watch and the gap check, run when you open the dashboard, and the card now says so in all 11 languages.
3 September 2026
The Getting started card says what's in the file. The card at the top of the dashboard now lists the six columns your accountant gets. They're word for word: quarter, country, orders, taxable_base, vat_collected, standard_rate_pct. You can hold the file next to the card and check it. The card also says what the app doesn't do: it reads this calendar year only, and it never files or pays anything.
2 September 2026
A PDF of the OSS report. Next to Download OSS CSV there's now Download OSS PDF (Standard and up). It's the same table as the CSV, with the numbers formatted the same way, so the two files can be compared line by line. The PDF is in English in every language of the app, because it's the document you hand to an accountant.
A country filter. A second menu next to Period narrows the table to one EU country. Both downloads follow it, so you can export a single country for a single quarter.
1 September 2026
Pick the quarter. A Period menu on the dashboard now offers every quarter of the current year, and the CSV follows it. Before this, the export only ever held the current quarter, even though the file name could say otherwise. A merchant asked for an earlier quarter by email, and that's how the problem was found.
A new walkthrough video, recorded from the real dashboard instead of a mock-up. The Watch the 90-second walkthrough button in the app points to it.
30 August 2026
Fixed: the €10,000 threshold was judged in the wrong currency. Seven EU currencies were affected: Danish krone, Swedish krona, zloty, koruna, forint, leu and lev. Totals in those were compared to €10,000 as if they were euro. DKK 10,000 is roughly €1,340, so a Danish store could be told it had crossed the threshold at about a seventh of it.
The app now refuses to answer instead of guessing. A non-euro store sees "Can't be checked — your totals aren't in euro" and a sentence explaining why: comparing them needs an official exchange rate, and the app won't make one up. The per-country VAT figures are not affected.
29 August 2026
A Getting started card at the top of the dashboard: what the numbers mean, where the export is, and what to do first. This came straight from a one-star review that said there was no guidance. The review was fair.
26 August 2026
Fixed: the CSV download opened a login screen. Clicking the export button opened a new browser tab that wasn't signed in to the app. The file now downloads inside the admin.
21 August 2026
Stores outside the EU no longer see a false all-clear. Stores in Norway, the UK, Switzerland or the US were shown "Below the €10,000 union threshold" in green. That threshold only exists for sellers established in the EU, so for those stores it was the wrong answer, not a smaller one. The dashboard now says the threshold doesn't apply and shows the sales figure without a percentage.
18 August 2026
Fixed: domestic sales were counted toward the threshold. The €10,000 union threshold is about cross-border sales. The app was adding a store's home-country sales too, so a French store selling only inside France could be told to register for OSS. It now reads the store's country from Shopify, counts cross-border EU sales only, and says under the figure which sales were left out ("domestic FR sales excluded").
If the store's country can't be read, the tile says so ("Can't be checked — store country unknown") rather than showing a number.
13 August 2026
Fixed: only the first 250 orders of the year were read. Every total in the app was a sum over at most 250 orders. Nothing on screen said the rest were missing. The app now reads every order of the year. If a very large store can't be read in full, it tells you which number is short. The threshold percentage shows as a minimum, for example "≥ 41%". A CSV that doesn't cover the whole quarter gets -INCOMPLETE in its name and a line saying not to file from it.
28 July 2026
A Cancel subscription button on paid plans, with one sentence explaining what happens: you move to Free and aren't charged again.
18 July 2026
First release. Per-country EU VAT from your Shopify orders, the €10,000 union threshold and the OSS CSV. It also checked the VAT you collected against each country's standard rate. Eleven languages.

VAT Guard is a Shopify app that turns a store's orders into an EU VAT and OSS report by country and quarter, for merchants who sell across EU borders.
